THE MIDRISING EDIT / EVERYDAY LIFE
You've got a to-do list that could wallpaper the kitchen. Work to do, people to feed, messages to answer, things to sort out. So why are you bored?
It's an awkward thing to admit when your life looks perfectly decent from the outside. You can be grateful for what you have and still be fed up with how your days feel.
What exactly is boring you?
“I'm bored with my life” sounds like one enormous problem. Try breaking it down. Are you bored by the repetition of your days? By conversations that never move beyond logistics? By work that no longer challenges you? By always being the sensible one?
Those are different problems, and they call for different responses. Booking a weekend away might help with routine. It won't necessarily fix a job you dread returning to.
Why a holiday doesn't always solve boredom
A change of scenery can be wonderful. But if the dullness is tied to the same conversations, routines or lack of challenge every week, you may find it waiting for you when you unpack.
Consider the difference between looking forward to a break and looking forward to your everyday life. It's a distinction worth noticing before booking another escape.
When did fun become another thing to be good at?
Somewhere along the way, hobbies can start sounding like qualifications. You need to be good at painting, fit enough for running, or committed enough to justify a class. What if you did something badly, simply because you enjoyed it?
Try an activity you have no intention of mastering. Notice whether the enjoyment comes from doing it, being with other people, or getting away from the usual routine. That distinction matters.
Don't confuse a dull week with a dull life
A bad fortnight doesn't automatically require a dramatic decision. Equally, if the same dissatisfaction keeps showing up, it's worth paying attention to the pattern. What repeats? What do you keep wishing were different?
What matters is whether the feeling passes or keeps turning up in the same circumstances. If it keeps returning, it's worth giving yourself some proper space to explore it.
